An incredible effort, built on months of consistency, discipline and commitment. It’s a huge achievement.

But you don’t have to run 26.2 miles to benefit from movement.

The same principle applies at every level. The body adapts to what you do consistently.

Whether it’s training for a marathon or simply moving a little more each week

It all counts.

DOCTOR SPOTLIGHT: DR SAM BOTCHEY What’s something DOCTOR SPOTLIGHT: DR SAM BOTCHEY

What’s something that’s often overtreated?

"Imaging findings are often treated rather than the patient in front of us. Just because a scan shows wear and tear, a tear, or degeneration does not automatically mean it is the true source of pain or that it needs an invasive procedure.

I also think some people are pushed too quickly towards passive treatments without enough emphasis on loading strategy, rehabilitation, strength work, and addressing the underlying cause. There is absolutely a place for injections and advanced treatments, but they work best when used thoughtfully, not as a shortcut.

Another area that can be overtreated is inflammation with repeated steroid use. Steroids can be useful in selected cases, but they are not always the best long-term answer, particularly around tendons, where repeated use may come at a cost."

Only when something starts to feel off.

Stiffness.
Niggling pain.
Things that don’t quite feel right anymore.

These changes often happen gradually, which makes them easy to brush off or adapt to.

Until they become your “normal”.

Those early signals are easy to ignore, but they’re often the most important ones.

They’re your body’s way of telling you something isn’t quite right, long before it becomes a bigger issue.

Backache at work isn’t always about your chair. I Backache at work isn’t always about your chair.

It’s often about how long you stay in one position.

Even a good setup can’t offset hours of staying still.
Small, regular movement throughout the day makes more difference than most people think.
